RTI Provides Intuitive Control Over Distributed Video Via Sleek Interfaces in Delaware Vacation Beach House

Overview

Recently, Annapolis-based integrator Atlantic Control Technologies (ACT)  installed a distributed video system in a 10-bedroom vacation beach house. To allow the homeowners and their guests to easily select any source for viewing on any screen, a control system was needed that combined powerful, intuitive control with sleek interfaces that would blend in with the home’s modern aesthetic. To meet these requirements, ACT turned to solutions from RTI.

Recently, Annapolis-based integrator Atlantic Control Technologies (ACT) completed an installation in a 10-bedroom vacation beach house on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean in Rehoboth, Delaware. The project was the winner of the 2020 CTA Mark of Excellence Award for Lighting Control Project of the Year featuring an extensive Lutron lighting and shading system. In addition, a key feature of the installation was the distributed video system for the family’s entertainment controlled by RTI.

ACT installed LG and Sony displays in the home’s game room, lake view room, living room, exercise room, office, and master suite, where the screen rises up from the foot of the bed via a motorized lift. In addition, the rooftop deck features both a Seura outdoor display and an Epson projector with a Screen Innovations screen for the ultimate outdoor viewing experience. Video sources include a Verizon cable box, Apple TV, Sony Blu-ray player, and Sony STR-ZA AV receiver.

Sources are shared throughout the home via an AVPro HDMI video matrix switcher. To allow the homeowners and their guests to select any source for viewing on any screen with the touch of a button or tap on a screen — while enabling operation of the motorized lift and Lutron shades in the master suite — a control system was needed to blend intuitive control with sleek interfaces with the home’s modern aesthetic. To meet these requirements, ACT turned to solutions from RTI.

The vacation home’s control system is powered by the RTI XP-6s processor, using IP drivers for seamless integration with the AVPro HDMI video matrix switcher, Sony AV receiver, and Lutron shading system. For the motorized lift, ACT took advantage of the processor’s relay control capabilities. The homeowners interact with the system using two of elegant RTI T2i touchscreen remote controls, in addition to seven SURFiR companion remotes. With the SURFiR remotes, the family can also use the RTiPanel app for control on their mobile devices, while having the convenience of hard buttons for tactile control over commonly used functions, such as channel changes or volume adjustments.

“RTI was a perfect fit for the project because its solutions are affordable, easy to program, and user friendly,” said Jan Erik Eden, operations manager for Atlantic Control Technologies. “The homeowners love how easy it is to enjoy video content in virtually any area of the home, and how well the slick look of the remote controls complements the home’s design aesthetic.”
