Description:

This driver is for the standalone Denon ASD-51 Network iPod Dock, connected via ethernet. It supports menu browsing of the iPod, Internet Radio, and Rhapsody.

Version History:

Version 1.01: fixes a problem where the XP processor could not connect to the dock.

Denon iPod Dock

XP-8 Processor

This product was designed and tested with the Denon ASD-51 control protocol version 2.0 and an ASD-51W iPod dock.

The driver supports ethernet control only.

Menu Functions:

The dock supports limited menu functions but not an actual two-way list. You can display the iPod's menu but you can only select by using the cursor up and down keysThe menu system is implemented via 9 button text variables called Digital Metadata 1-9.

Line 1 is always the menu title or state

Line 2-8 are either menu data or metadata for the currently playing media, they have a reversed state variable that will highlight them

The boolean variables Now Playing and Not Playing change to reflect what the menu is showing (menu info or metadata), there are also System Events that trigger when the menu contents change

The driver cannot poll for the menu/metadata information so when you first boot the driver/XP8 it won't populate until the song, station or menu changes.

Problems and notes

The current firmware in the dock has a few issues:

The highlighting in the 'Favorites' menu is reversed on the empty lines.

The dock does not return repeat/shuffle status information and there are no discrete commands for setting those modes.

The response to the volume command is very slow and seems to bog down the whole system.

if you back up to the 'top' menu, or navigate there with with the driver command the menus stop updating. You should do all the set up stuff (including entering Rhapsody and Napster information) with the on-screen menu.
